We are inviting motivated early-career researchers (master’s students, PhD candidates, postdocs) to the masterclass accompanying the symposium. The masterclass is designed to give young researchers space to discuss their work or any scientific issues they have stumbled upon, in an engaging and interactive setting with experts in the neuroscience and circadian fields – Michael Hastings and Jun Yan.

Dr. Michael Hastings is the group leader at the Neurobiology Division, Medical Research Council MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, United Kingdom). Throughout his career, he has studied a variety of rhythms: tidal and semi-lunar rhythms in marine organisms, seasonal neuroendocrinology in mammals, and later circadian rhythms in the central clock (suprachiasmatic nuclei, SCN). His group studies molecular mechanisms behind the 24-hour time-keeping in the SCN and the role of astrocytes in the generation of daily rhythms.

Dr. Jun Yan is the head of the Laboratory of Biological Network Computation at the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (Shanghai, China). The two main research directions of his group are the analysis of large-scale neural networks and the analysis of gene regulatory networks in the nervous system (with a focus on the central clock) across different species, including zebrafish, mouse, macaque and human. His group classified different neuronal subtypes in the SCN and recently published a spatial and single-cell transcriptomic atlas of the human SCN.
